Takeru Segawa, Yuya Wakamatsu Plan Decisive Wins At ONE Samurai 1

Takeru, known as “Natural Born Krusher” Segawa, intends to secure a championship before concluding his career.

The distinguished three-time K-1 Champion is set to challenge Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon for the ONE Interim Flyweight Kickboxing World Title during the headlining match of ONE Samurai 1, held on April 29 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, marking his professional farewell bout.

Additionally featured on the event’s lineup, ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu will undertake his second championship defense, confronting Avazbek “Ninzya” Kholmirzaev.

Their initial encounter at ONE 172 in March concluded swiftly, lasting merely 80 seconds. A solitary left hook from Rodtang brought an abrupt end to the contest, and this unexpected defeat prompted Takeru to consider retiring.

He achieved a recovery at ONE 173 in November, securing a second-round TKO victory over Denis Puric, which not only awarded him a US$50,000 performance incentive but, crucially, also granted him the long-sought rematch.

At 34 years old, and preparing for his ultimate fight, Takeru perceives each mark of battle as integral to his journey. Segawa expressed:

“I am immensely pleased to have the opportunity to compete against Rodtang once more in my concluding professional contest. My sole focus, even prior to my affiliation with ONE, has consistently been on overcoming Rodtang,” he stated.

“Reflecting on my past, I am convinced that even my earlier defeat played a role in shaping my narrative, guiding me to this retirement match where I will reverse fortunes and seize the championship. I intend to unequivocally demonstrate that Takeru remains a pivotal figure in the realm of combat sports. I fully intend to emerge victorious.”

Yuya Wakamatsu poised to reveal a different aspect at ONE Samurai 1

Yuya Wakamatsu’s pursuit of the flyweight championship involved significant setbacks, including defeats to Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes, prior to his breakthrough moment where he defeated Moraes in the opening round at ONE 172, followed by a successful defense against Joshua Pacio via second-round TKO at ONE 173. His critics have been silenced, sequentially.

Kholmirzaev presents a distinct challenge. Possessing an unyielding offensive style and a comprehensive skillset, the contender from Uzbekistan has dominated the division, garnering Wakamatsu’s complete respect in anticipation of their April 29 bout.

“He exhibits exceptional aggression as a competitor, displaying advanced proficiency in striking, grappling, and submission techniques. Notably, his right leg kicks pose a considerable threat.”

“My intention is to exert my utmost effort and showcase the abilities and mental fortitude I have cultivated throughout my tenure at ONE Samurai 1. I am convinced that spectators will witness an evolved version of Yuya Wakamatsu — and frankly, I am eager to observe the performance I can deliver personally.”

“I extend my sincere gratitude for your continuous support. I promise to exhibit my complete capability in this upcoming contest — kindly anticipate it!”
