Raducanu’s 52-minute loss: ‘A long way to go’

When my performance isn’t optimal, the disparity in shot impact and sheer force becomes noticeably clearer.

One experiences a slight disadvantage, with fewer successful strikes compared to an opponent’s.

Clearly, I must adopt an offensive strategy against such competitors, though I recognize substantial progress is still required to achieve that, and I should leverage my advantages and vary my approach.

Following her split with Francisco Roig in January and the temporary hiring of Mark Petchey as a coach, Raducanu stated last week her aspiration to reclaim her inherent style of play, aiming to recapture the prowess that led to her 2021 US Open victory.

After defeating Anastasia Zakharova 6-1 6-3 in the second round, Raducanu commented that “It’s challenging to extract significant insights from the match, beyond the initial serves, given the absence of extended exchanges.”

However, I must acknowledge the accomplishments of my training over the past nine days since arriving, and my initial match proved satisfactory.

While I could allow today’s outcome to discourage me, I believe that, on the whole, recent days have been more positive than negative.

Anisimova is scheduled to compete against the Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko, seeded tenth, in the round of 16.
