As of now, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided against moving their prominent wide receiver, A.J. Brown, as reported by Dianna Russini of The Athletic on Friday. Russini indicated that the Eagles had engaged in substantial discussions regarding Brown’s potential transfer with both the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots.
Russini further conveyed on X that any potential trade “would probably gain momentum nearer to June 1.”
The prospect of Brown’s continued presence in Philadelphia was a significant subject of discussion throughout the previous season, and this speculation has persisted into the current offseason period. Last autumn, the three-time All-Pro receiver communicated, through both his statements and his online presence, his dissatisfaction with his restricted role within an erratic Eagles offensive scheme which he believed was not collectively performing adequately to secure victories in crucial moments.
The 28-year-old Brown registered three contests with a maximum of two catches across the initial eight games. This period started with him receiving just a single target during the opening game of the season.
Despite still managing to achieve his sixth season surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in a seven-year professional career that commenced with the Tennessee Titans, his overall yardage count represented his second-lowest since joining the league as a second-round draft selection from Ole Miss in 2019. Furthermore, Philadelphia exited the playoffs following a wild-card defeat, merely a year after clinching the Super Bowl title.
Subsequently, the Eagles have initiated a comprehensive overhaul of their offensive unit, dismissing coordinator Kevin Patullo and appointing 33-year-old Sean Mannion as the new Offensive Coordinator to introduce fresh strategic approaches into a group perceived as overly discernible throughout the 2025 season.
The query concerning whether the Eagles might also part ways with Brown has persisted for several months since the team’s early conclusion to its championship defense efforts.
Philadelphia chose to retain Brown during the previous season’s trade deadline.
“I believe that when a team aims for excellence, it becomes challenging to exchange exceptional athletes, and A.J. Brown exemplifies an outstanding player,” stated general manager Howie Roseman about the team captain after the deadline had elapsed.
“He carries the captain’s designation (‘C’) for a valid reason. He constitutes a crucial element of this squad, of this corporate structure. He is committed to triumph. He is dedicated to his fellow players. And my perspective is that when you are an organization such as ours, anticipating the chance to vie for a championship, you simply do not divest yourselves of individuals of that caliber.”
Should Roseman actually “divest” himself of Brown, such a transaction would only occur in exchange for a substantial compensation package. The Athletic reported on Friday that his valuation for Brown included a first-round and a second-round draft selection.
This aligns with the assets acquired by the Green Bay Packers in 2022 during the Davante Adams trade, when they dispatched the star receiver to the Las Vegas Raiders. At that juncture, Adams was one year senior to Brown’s current age.
The Patriots engaged in discussions with the Eagles concerning Brown preceding the NFL’s permissible contact period for free agency, as per The Athletic, yet an agreement was not finalized between the two entities.
New England subsequently secured former Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs, reportedly on a four-year contract valued at $80 million. This acquisition does not, however, definitively exclude the Patriots from pursuing Brown.
Regarding the Rams, they have already executed a significant trade earlier this offseason. Los Angeles dispatched four draft selections, which included a first-round pick in 2026, to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for cornerback Trent McDuffie, whom the Rams then secured with a four-year extension reportedly valued at $124 million.
According to The Athletic, Los Angeles has maintained vigilance over Brown’s circumstances. The Rams currently feature Adams and Puka Nacua as the primary figures in their wide receiver corps.
Nevertheless, in the nascent stages of the new league season, Brown remains a member of the Eagles organization.
