Grizzlies’ Ja Morant out for season with elbow sprain.

The Memphis Grizzlies confirmed on Tuesday that Ja Morant’s current season has concluded.

The team’s point guard, inactive since January 21st, will not rejoin the squad due to persistent discomfort in his left elbow resulting from a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. Reports suggest he has been advised to undergo a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in the affected elbow to facilitate ligament repair.

This intervention is projected to sideline Morant for the remainder of the 2025-26 competitive year; however, he is anticipated to achieve complete recovery by the commencement of the 2026-27 season.

This situation means Morant participated in merely 20 matchups during the current season, marking another professional campaign significantly impacted by physical ailments. Since his prior All-Star year in 2022-23, his cumulative game count across three seasons stands at 79. He sat out all but nine contests in 2023-24 following a suspension and a shoulder ailment, and additionally missed 32 games in the preceding season due to various health problems.

With a record of 24-47 and trailing by 9.5 games for the last Western Conference play-in position, the Grizzlies possessed minimal incentive to hasten Morant’s comeback. There were rumors circulating that Memphis considered trading Morant around the NBA’s February trade deadline, yet the team ultimately refrained from executing any such transaction.

Morant is slated to reach 27 years of age prior to his next appearance in an NBA game, progressively distancing himself from his era as one of the basketball league’s premier youthful talents.
