Gauff vs. Sabalenka in Miami Open Final Debut

Gauff and Sabalenka each hold six victories across their dozen past encounters; Sabalenka secured the latest win during the previous year’s WTA Finals tournament.

Sabalenka has achieved an impressive start to the current year, securing victories in 17 out of 18 matches played, with wins at Brisbane and Indian Wells flanking her defeat to Rybakina in the Australian Open final.

However, the 27-year-old athlete, a four-time Grand Slam champion, has subsequently avenged that particular defeat.

Following her comeback from a set behind to defeat Rybakina and claim her tenth WTA 1000 title earlier in March, Sabalenka bested her competitor for the second occasion within a fortnight, thereby becoming merely the fourth female tennis player since the year 2000 to advance to the championship match in her initial four tour-level competitions of a season.

After securing the initial set by breaking serve in the tenth game, Sabalenka quickly established a 4-0 advantage with two breaks of serve in the second set and maintained her lead even as Rybakina narrowed the margin, ultimately triumphing in an hour and nineteen minutes.

This put Sabalenka just one win away from achieving the Sunshine Double – capturing both Indian Wells and the Miami Open titles within a single season – a feat last accomplished by Swiatek in 2022.

When asked about her anticipations for the final match against Gauff, Sabalenka expressed: “Expect numerous rallies, intense emotions, significant aggression, and immense enjoyment.

“It will be a challenging contest, and I am extremely eager to face her in yet another championship encounter.”
