In Phoenix — The Cleveland Browns have decided against bringing in AJ Epenesa, as the franchise felt hesitant to complete the agreement following the experienced defensive end’s medical examination, an anonymous insider disclosed to ESPN this past Sunday.
The Browns had previously reached a preliminary agreement for a single-year contract, potentially valued at $5 million, with Epenesa on March 18, as an insider informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter during that period. Epenesa made an appearance at the Browns’ complex the preceding Monday, according to the NFL’s official transaction updates, yet the contract was never formalized.
Epenesa’s role was anticipated to bolster the Browns’ defensive line options, especially after Cameron Thomas joined the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the current offseason period.
Epenesa, currently 27 years old, spent the entirety of his six professional football seasons with the Bills. Chosen by Buffalo in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, he consistently contributed as a dependable component of the team’s defensive line group through the years and served as an effective reserve player, participating in 91 contests (starting 19).
