Following his acquisition in a major three-club transaction between the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, and Chicago Bulls, Jaden Ivey appeared in four matches for the Bulls.

Subsequently, during a live Instagram broadcast, he vocally criticized his new franchise for hosting a “Pride Night” event on January 10 – an initiative showing support for the LGBTQ community, widely adopted by the majority of professional sports organizations by 2026.
As reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, this incident was sufficient for the Bulls to decide to mitigate their financial exposure.
On March 30, Charania announced that the Bulls would release Ivey, which occurred under two months since they obtained the 24-year-old defensive player.
In an Instagram live session, Ivey stated, “They proclaim Pride Month in the NBA. They proclaim it. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month,’ to celebrate unrighteousness. They proclaim it. They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim it in the streets — unrighteousness. So how is it that one can’t speak righteousness? [Who] are they to say that, ‘Man, this man is crazy’?”
The NBA likewise publicizes its backing for Pride Month across digital platforms. It asserts itself as the inaugural major athletic league to form an employee resource group (ERG) for its LGBTQ+ workforce, designated as NBA Pride.
Bonnie Thurston, serving as the Director of Player Programs for the WNBA and Co-Chair of NBA Pride, communicated to the league’s official website in 2024, “We want everyone to know they have a safe space in sports and for our fans to know they are welcome here”.
Ivey’s outspoken criticism extends beyond the Bulls. This position, hypothetically, might hinder his ability to secure employment with any NBA franchise, given his publicly expressed anti-LGBTQ perspectives.
While playing for the Detroit Pistons, Ivey maintained averages of 8.2 points, 1.6 assists, and 2.2 rebounds during 16.8 minutes of play, prior to his transfer to Chicago in an exchange that saw Kevin Huerter and Dario Sarić join the Pistons, alongside Mike Conley’s move to Chicago.
As the fifth selection overall from Purdue in the 2022 NBA Draft, Ivey has accumulated career averages of 14.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists across four NBA seasons (2022-26).
Ivey had been placed on the injury list due to a knee ailment sustained on Feb. 11, which concluded his season.
