The esports event organizer PGL declared its intention to invest a minimum of $22 million (approximately £16.5 million) into the Counter-Strike 2 competitive scene across the upcoming two-year period.
Consequently, PGL plans to stage six premier-level tournaments during 2027 and 2028, aiming to foster consistency and long-term viability within the growing schedule of the popular first-person shooter game.
Publicized on March 9th, PGL communicated that this pledge signifies ‘a fresh chapter for professional teams,’ intending to establish enduring support for invited organizations and the athletes participating in high-stakes competitions.
Within this evolving phase, PGL is set to introduce an incentive scheme, featuring compensation for engagement and for teams that attract significant viewership during their events.
Approximately $2.2 million (around £1.6 million) will be allocated to invited teams, with an additional $2.8 million (roughly £2.09 million) available as an annual viewership bonus. Furthermore, exceptional teams across PGL’s top-tier tournaments will contend for a share of $6 million (about £4.49 million) in prize money.
PGL CEO Silviu Stroie commented via social media, stating, “This is our most substantial dedication to Counter-Strike to date.” He added, “The various incentives within our initiative are designed to draw the highest caliber of teams and players to our competitions. We eagerly anticipate presenting even more outstanding events to the Counter-Strike audience.”
Beyond the considerable financial awards, PGL is instituting a comprehensive hospitality plan for both players and support staff. The event organizer will assume responsibility for the travel expenses of eight team members and provide exclusive practice facilities equipped with advanced hardware.
This initiative also includes avenues for fan interaction, enabling participating teams to vend merchandise and conduct interactive experiences at event venues.
PGL’s Continued Growth
This substantial commitment to Counter-Strike esports for the years 2027 and 2028 solidifies PGL’s standing as a leading global tournament organizer. In February, PGL successfully forged a three-year agreement with the city of Cluj-Napoca for hosting events there through 2029.
Separately, PGL has enlisted multiple collaborators to assist its activities throughout the 2026 season. That same February, the organization **collaborated with ASUS ROG** to furnish the primary competition stage and training zones with various computers and accessories.
