Sergio Pettis Praises “GOAT” Demetrious Johnson’s “Much Deserved” UFC Hall of Fame Induction.

Demetrious Johnson’s inclusion in the 2026 UFC Hall of Fame class was recently confirmed, and a past Bellator MMA champion shared his thoughts on ‘Mighty Mouse’ being honored by the UFC HOF. Sergio Pettis made these remarks before his headlining bout against the undefeated Mitch McKee at PFL Chicago scheduled for April 11th.

Around December, Pettis shared an Instagram photo featuring Demetrious Johnson and himself, posing within a fight cage during an event promoted by Pettis’s older brother, Anthony. When questioned about his opinion on DJ’s eventual enshrinement in the UFC Hall of Fame, Pettis articulated [as reported by Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Much deserved. Demetrious Johnson is one of the GOATs in MMA in general, but also in the UFC. He had a hell of a reign. He barely lost that last fight against [Henry] Cejudo. So, man, he deserves all of that. I’m very excited for him. I’m very happy for him and see him getting his flowers. It’s much, much [needed and] necessary for him. Especially after being retired and being done with the sport now. To get that love is very powerful. I’m very happy for him. Much deserved.”

Demetrious Johnson submitted to a current UFC champion by a choke in under sixty seconds

At his career’s zenith, Demetrious Johnson was widely considered the premier pound-for-pound fighter in mixed martial arts; however, he recently encountered a challenging experience while engaging with one of the sport’s present elite P4P competitors. This encounter occurred with the reigning UFC middleweight champion, Khamzat Chimaev, who participated in a recent grappling exchange with the former UFC flyweight titleholder, subsequently leading to widespread sharing of the video across social media platforms.

Given a weight disparity of sixty pounds between them, Chimaev swiftly established a front chancery, then promptly transitioned into a D’arce choke, prompting a submission tap from ‘Mighty Mouse,’ while observers exclaimed that the grappling encounter concluded in approximately 47 seconds.
