Ex-Michigan staffer Paige Shiver alleges coaches knew of her Sherrone Moore relationship.

Paige Shiver, a former employee at Michigan, revealed that fellow Wolverines coaches knew about her long-standing romantic involvement with Sherrone Moore, who previously served as the football head coach.

Speaking on “Good Morning America,” Shiver disclosed that her job responsibilities included providing emotional assistance to Moore within the professional environment.

She portrayed Moore as reliant on her emotionally throughout this period, an arrangement she claimed the department fostered.

According to her, leading coaches frequently instructed her to comfort Moore “to soothe him” during moments of agitation, occasionally even during game intermissions. She complied, driven by concerns for her employment stability. “My emotions were irrelevant to them. Their sole intention was to utilize me to assist him in navigating the season,” she recounted.

Earlier in the current month, Moore received an 18-month probationary sentence for visiting Shiver’s residence subsequent to his dismissal from the university in December due to their affair. While both initially denied their involvement, Shiver later confirmed to investigators that she and Moore were romantically involved.

Subsequent to his termination by athletic director Warde Manuel, Moore proceeded to Shiver’s home, where he reportedly made suicidal threats and held Shiver accountable for the situation. His probationary period resulted from his plea of no contest to charges of misdemeanor malicious use of a telecommunications device within a domestic context and misdemeanor trespassing, as part of an agreement with legal authorities.

Shiver stated that her romantic involvement with Moore commenced in January 2022, during his tenure as an assistant coach. Several months afterward, she discovered she was expecting Moore’s baby. However, she opted for an abortion following medical recommendations. Shiver had previously received a diagnosis of Pompe Disease, a hereditary condition affecting glycogen storage.

During the conversation, Shiver affirmed that Moore was aware of her choice to undergo an abortion.

“Numerous medical professionals and specialists advised me against carrying the pregnancy to term for health reasons,” a tearful Shiver expressed, confirming with a nod and a verbal “yes” when asked if she had wished to keep the infant.

“[Moore] remarked, ‘You needed to act in the best interest of your physical well-being.'”

At Moore’s sentencing hearing, Judge Cedric Simpson commended Moore’s spouse, Kelli, highlighting the “immense weight” she had endured. Kelli Moore was present for the court proceeding. She and Moore have been wed since 2015 and share three offspring.

Speaking with the Detroit News following Moore’s sentencing, Manuel conveyed feeling “deceived” by Moore.

“I experienced a sense of betrayal,” Manuel stated when queried about his reaction to the disclosure of Moore’s affair with Shiver. “That’s the most fitting term I can employ. I felt pain on behalf of all personnel, student-athletes, and the institution, as this is a matter I had addressed regarding the conduct standards for our athletics employees and the university as a whole. I had discussed it during comprehensive staff gatherings, drawing parallels to the situations involving Martin Philbert [former UM provost dismissed for sexual misconduct] and Mark Schlissel [former UM president terminated for an improper relationship with a staff member], emphasizing that such behavior would not be countenanced by me or the university, and I believed I had articulated my expectations and the consequences of such occurrences with utmost clarity.

“I had been acquainted with Sherrone since his arrival here (in 2018 when he was appointed as an assistant coach), had faith in his leadership abilities, trusted that my team operated ethically, and thus, I felt both pain and betrayal from this incident. While it was personally impactful, I also wish to highlight its broader effect on numerous individuals. It is challenging for a leader to implement disciplinary measures against those they care for and have confidence in, yet it is a necessary duty. Many individuals might appear indifferent, suggesting, ‘You should have discharged him when mere speculation existed.’ However, one cannot simply terminate employees based on unverified rumors. Therefore, once concrete proof emerged, it evoked feelings of treachery and distress for everyone implicated in the subsequent resolution. This includes athletes, coaching staff, and their families. Everyone.”

Moore held the position of Michigan’s offensive coordinator for a duration of three seasons prior to assuming the head coaching role, which occurred after Jim Harbaugh left for the Los Angeles Chargers subsequent to the Wolverines’ triumph in the College Football Playoff in January 2024.

The Michigan team achieved an 8-5 record in the 2024 season and a 9-3 record in 2025 before Moore’s termination. He faced a two-game ban during the 2025 season due to his involvement in Connor Stalions’ strategy of advanced scouting to decode opposing teams’ signals.

The institution initiated an inquiry into Moore’s connection with Shiver during the 2025 season; however, both individuals maintained their denial of a relationship until she eventually disclosed the truth.

Following Moore’s dismissal, Michigan announced its intention to examine the athletic department’s operational environment in light of its numerous controversies. His termination succeeded the federal indictment of former co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss for allegedly illicitly accessing the online profiles of female collegiate athletes nationwide, the multiple NCAA rule violations under Harbaugh’s leadership, and the turbulent period of the men’s basketball program under Juwan Howard.
