Durant (bone bruise), Reaves out for Lakers-Rockets Game 4.

Star player Kevin Durant of the Houston Rockets was declared unavailable for Sunday’s fourth game versus the Los Angeles Lakers, suffering from a bone contusion in his twisted left ankle.

Concurrently, the Lakers announced Austin Reaves would not participate, having been previously designated as questionable due to the ailment that has kept him off the court since the latter part of the regular season.

Durant’s twisted left ankle is afflicted with a bone contusion, which coach Ime Udoka described as the “most severe aspect” of his physical setback.

“The bone contusion, in my opinion, presents the greatest challenge,” Udoka communicated to journalists during his session before the match. “While extensive therapy and recovery efforts focused on reducing inflammation were undertaken, the primary issue remains the discomfort stemming from the bone damage, along with restricted movement.”

This marks Durant’s third missed contest of the series, and his current campaign will conclude should the Rockets suffer defeat on Sunday evening. He sat out the first game due to a knee issue, followed by his absence in the third game caused by his ankle sprain. The Lakers hold a commanding 3-0 advantage in the series and are in a position to secure victory with a win in the upcoming fourth game.

Throughout this series, the Rockets have encountered difficulties whether Durant was playing or not, and are now confronted with the monumental task of attempting to be the inaugural NBA squad to recover from a 3-0 deficit to claim a series, or otherwise face early elimination. Competing without Durant in the fourth game undeniably exacerbates the difficulty of their challenge.

Durant accumulated twenty points during the initial half of the second game. However, the Lakers restricted him to merely three points following the intermission, ultimately securing a 101-94 triumph. Subsequently, the Rockets squandered a six-point advantage in the concluding thirty seconds of regular play in the third game, eventually succumbing to a loss in overtime on Friday evening.

The Lakers have established their three-zero advantage even though their two leading point-scorers, Luka Dončić and Reaves, have been sidelined. LeBron James has spearheaded the Lakers’ endeavors, with supporting players for Los Angeles elevating their performance in the absence of both Reaves and Dončić.

Reports indicated Reaves was close to returning to action, and his status was elevated to questionable for the preceding two contests. Nevertheless, he is set to stay absent from the Lakers’ roster for at least the fourth game.
