Magomed Ankalaev, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, reiterated Carlos Ulberg’s description of Jiri Prochazka as a ‘fraud’ following UFC 327.
Carlos Ulberg inaugurated a fresh phase in the UFC light heavyweight division with an astonishing come-from-behind knockout victory over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 327 earlier this month. Even after Prochazka incapacitated Ulberg’s leg mere moments into their contest, Ulberg connected with a potent strike on Prochazka, thereby claiming the then-unoccupied UFC light heavyweight belt.
Ulberg has subsequently criticized Prochazka’s assertion of ‘clemency,’ a narrative stemming from the ex-champion’s remarks after their match. These comments gained significant traction online following the fight, and Prochazka recently reinforced his position.
As Prochazka anticipates his return to the Octagon, aiming for a re-entry into the championship discussion, he recently named Magomed Ankalaev and Paulo Costa as potential adversaries for his upcoming fight. Ankalaev has not competed since his UFC 320 defeat to Alex Pereira and is reportedly slated for the forthcoming UFC 329 card against an opponent yet to be revealed.
Despite these reports, Ankalaev quickly took notice of Prochazka’s challenge and did not respond amicably.
Magomed Ankalaev labels Jiri Prochazka the ‘most straightforward opponent’ following recent challenge
In a recent communication shared on X, Ankalaev responded to Prochazka’s callout.
“Jiri Prochazka was defeated by knockout by an individual fighting on one leg, and now he challenges me, having learned that I already have an adversary,” Ankalaev shared.
“Carlos Ulberg’s assessment is accurate; this person is a fake. He consistently avoided a true confrontation with me, and he represents the simplest contest in the entire light heavyweight category.”
Ulberg is anticipated to be out of action for approximately six to eight months while recuperating from an ACL tear sustained during his encounter with Prochazka. Currently, it remains unclear whether UFC officials will arrange an interim championship match during Ulberg’s time away.
Meanwhile, animosity is escalating between Prochazka and Ankalaev, suggesting a confrontation between them might materialize in the near future.
