Presently, as betting odds continue to fluctuate, Renegade maintains its top contender status, but is now facing closer competition.

The preceding year’s Kentucky Derby was claimed by Sovereignty, at 7-1 odds on a damp track. Conditioned by Bill Mott, Sovereignty completed the race in 2 minutes, 2.31 seconds. Journalism, the favored horse, secured second place, and Baeza finished in third.
