Japan’s Nishikori to retire end 2026

Starting his professional journey in 2007, Nishikori secured 12 championships on the ATP Tour and has been active on the Challenger circuit throughout the current year.

His most recent participation in a premier ATP Tour event was at the Cincinnati Open in August 2025.

Among Nishikori’s significant triumphs was his victory over Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam victor, during the semi-final stage of the 2014 US Open.

Nishikori stated, “Achieving a spot on the ATP Tour, competing at the highest echelons, and sustaining my position within the top 10 are accomplishments I hold in immense esteem.”

“Regardless of winning or losing, the unique ambiance experienced in crowded venues holds an unparalleled value.”

“Additionally, there were periods where recurring injuries caused immense frustration and apprehension, hindering my ability to perform as desired.”

“Despite these challenges, my passion for tennis and conviction in my potential to improve consistently drew me back to play.”

“I believe these collective experiences have significantly enriched and molded my existence. I extend my profound gratitude to my family and to all who consistently offered their support.”
