Due to a viral infection, Raducanu was absent from the Miami Open in March and chose not to participate in the clay court tournaments in Linz and Madrid, aiming for a complete recuperation.
Consequently, her most recent competitive showing took place in Indian Wells during the early part of March.
Since concluding her coaching partnership with Francisco Roig following the Australian Open, Raducanu has been consistently receiving assistance from Alexis Canter.
While in Indian Wells, she stated an openness to potentially hiring another permanent coach, yet she voiced concerns regarding the intense public examination that accompanies her decisions.
Richardson occupied the coaching position when Raducanu, then an 18-year-old qualifier, achieved victory at the 2021 US Open without conceding a single set.
He had taken over from Nigel Sears just after Wimbledon that same summer; however, after her remarkable win in New York, Raducanu and her relatives determined that a more seasoned WTA coach was necessary, and thus Richardson’s agreement was not renewed.
Raducanu has a scheduled practice session with German athlete Eva Lys in Rome, set for Saturday at midday.
Given her status as a seeded competitor, she will be granted an exemption from the first round, meaning her initial match would not occur prior to Thursday.
Additionally, WTA competitions are scheduled for Strasbourg and Rabat in the week preceding the French Open, an event that concludes the clay-court calendar and commences on May 24th.
