Sean Strickland, a previous UFC middleweight titleholder, holds the conviction that a certain boundary exists which he himself would not violate, a boundary that Josh Hokit undeniably breached.
For weeks leading up to UFC 328, Sean Strickland and the middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev exchanged verbal attacks, positioning them as the main attractions of the event’s fight week. These two fighters, headlining UFC 328, were the focal point of an exceptionally tumultuous press conference in the history of Mixed Martial Arts, necessitating the presence of numerous police personnel to ensure Chimaev and Strickland remained apart.
The ceremonial weigh-in faceoff on Friday mirrored the ongoing animosity between Chimaev and Strickland, with both parties launching last-minute verbal assaults before the fight itself. However, immediately preceding the UFC 328 ceremonial weigh-in, the atmosphere grew incredibly tense during the inaugural pre-fight press conference for the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 event.
At a chaotic press event, heavyweight Josh Hokit engaged in heated exchanges with Derrick Lewis, the UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, and Alex Pereira. Topuria, in particular, attempted to confront Hokit physically after the contentious heavyweight fighter referenced Topuria’s recent private troubles outside of the fighting arena.
Similar to Hokit, Strickland is consistently willing to go to extremes for the sake of promoting a fight; however, even the most outspoken competitors recognize certain boundaries they will not breach.
Sean Strickland’s unexpected comments on Josh Hokit’s press conference: ‘Coming from me…’
Via a recent post on social media, Strickland conveyed an astonishing opinion regarding Hokit’s widely circulated actions during the UFC Freedom 250 press event.
Strickland commented on Hokit, stating, “It’s extraordinary for me to say this, but Josh pushes boundaries excessively.”
He added, referencing specific instances, “Chandler’s spouse, Ilia Topuria’s former partner… I understand this might be perceived as theatrics akin to professional wrestling, yet it surpasses acceptable limits.”
Previously this week, Strickland criticized Hokit’s behavior, labeling it as a ‘professional wrestling act.’ The heavyweight then retaliated by extending a fight challenge to the ex-middleweight champion. At the present moment, Hokit has not yet replied to Strickland’s disapproving social media message.
