Georges St-Pierre, a previous UFC middleweight title holder, recently shared his perspective concerning the UFC 328 championship bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland. The ex-two-division UFC champion conveyed these remarks to Mike Bohn in an interview published by MMA Junkie.
At UFC 328 on May 9th, Khamzat Chimaev conceded his middleweight championship to prior titleholder Sean Strickland following a split decision. GSP expressed astonishment at the fight’s outcome, remarking on the remarkable and impressive string of upsets Strickland has achieved in securing UFC accolades.
Subsequent to observing ‘Borz’s’ apparent exhaustion and conveying anticipation for either an immediate rematch or a transition to the light heavyweight division for Chimaev, St-Pierre stated [as reported by MMA Junkie],
“Nobody’s invincible. It’s not the best fighter who wins the fight, it’s the fighter who fights the best, the night of the fight. If you don’t believe me, look at any other sport. … I believe that Khamzat is a better fighter than Sean Strickland. But that night, Sean beat him. Sean can do it again next time. That’s the thing. Being a champion, the number one quality of a champion is to be good when it counts, when it matters. It’s very hard.”
Khamzat Chimaev schedules upcoming competition against former Conor McGregor associate
Khamzat Chimaev intends to maintain an active schedule and avoid a prolonged break, preparing to face an individual who previously competed against Logan Paul in the near future. Chimaev will don the wrestling singlet, seeking to secure a victory in a different form of combat sport, subsequent to losing his MMA championship. Chimaev is set to wrestle Dillon Danis, and this initial venture for him in the professional grappling promotion has been gaining momentum for several weeks.
The agreement with Chimaev was initially disclosed during the promotion’s RAF 8 event in April. Chimaev aims to replicate the comparable achievements of his corner-man from the preceding weekend’s UFC main event, Arman Tsarukyan, in RAF contests, given that the prominent UFC lightweight contender has established himself as a significant figure for Real American Freestyle. Danis has previously competed in the RAF singlet but suffered a technical fall defeat to Colby Covington, a former multiple-time UFC welterweight championship challenger, at RAF 7.
