Jesús Sánchez, an outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, departed Sunday’s contest versus the Baltimore Orioles due to a physical ailment.
Upon Sánchez’s exit from the match, he was escorted by a medical trainer and the team’s manager, John Schneider. The athlete appeared to be nursing his right hand or wrist.
The incident leading to the injury transpired in the lower half of the sixth inning, at which point the Orioles held a 6-0 advantage with a pair of players on base.
Television footage indicated that Sánchez might have made a gesture towards the spectators, although it could have simply been a wave. Regardless, immediately following this action, a supporter hurled a baseball at Sánchez, striking his right hand or wrist.
The sudden impact, which was unforeseen, probably startled Sánchez, causing him to subsequently cradle his hand and wrist, which led to the intervention of medical personnel.
The Toronto organization issued a statement indicating the outfielder’s removal was due to a “right wrist contusion.” Radiographic examinations conducted to detect a fracture yielded no positive findings.
According to Jacob Meyer, a reporter covering the Baltimore team, the fan involved was a 13-year-old individual who mistakenly believed Sánchez was inviting him to play catch with his glove, thus prompting the throw.
The Orioles issued an official declaration stating that the spectator in question had been identified and subsequently ejected from the event. Baltimore further affirmed its intention to carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
Sánchez commenced the game positioned sixth in Toronto’s batting order. He registered a single in the second inning against pitcher Kyle Bradish. This hit did not materialize into any runs, as Charles McAdoo subsequently hit into a double play that concluded the inning.
During his subsequent plate appearance, Sánchez grounded out to the third baseman. He was substituted in the bottom of the sixth inning by Yohendrick Pinango, who later connected for a three-run homer in the eighth inning, narrowing Baltimore’s advantage to four runs.
This marks Sánchez’s seventh campaign participating in Major League Baseball. His tenure with the Blue Jays commenced during the 2026 offseason. Sánchez has appeared in 56 contests this current season, maintaining a .285 batting average, alongside six home runs and 28 runs batted in.
