Prominent NFL Player Detained For Alarming Accusations

Based on detention facility documents supplied by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Jonathon Cooper, an edge rusher for the Denver Broncos, was taken into custody on Thursday night in Colorado, facing accusations of domestic violence and property damage.

An officer from the Parker Police Department apprehended Cooper at 11:16 PM local time, and he was processed into the Douglas County correctional facility at 2:38 AM. Cooper attended a court session on Friday morning. The specific reasons precipitating Cooper’s apprehension have not been disclosed. His subsequent court appearance is scheduled for Monday at 10 AM.

The Associated Press reports that the Broncos organization is cognizant of the situation and is in the process of compiling additional facts.

Cooper, selected as the seventh pick from Ohio State in 2021, has established himself as a premier edge rusher for the Denver team. Within the Broncos’ defensive lineup, Cooper plays alongside Pro Bowl selection Nik Bonitto and Patrick Surtain II, recognized as the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year. Cooper is a key figure in a defensive unit that concluded the previous season within the top three for fewest points and yards surrendered. Beyond his 16 quarterback pressures, the linebacker achieved eight sacks in 2025, a figure surpassed only by Bonitto.

The 28-year-old Cooper formalized a four-year contract extension totaling $54 million with Denver in 2024, extending his agreement until 2028.

Denver concluded its initial week of optional organized team activities on Thursday. The Broncos are set to recommence OTAs on June 9, with a compulsory minicamp slated for June 16.
