Canelo Demands $100M for Crawford Rematch

Saul Alvarez is willing to entertain a second bout with Terence Crawford, but formal talks would need to start at a nine-figure sum.

When asked in a recent interview if a $75 million payout each would coax Crawford out of retirement, Alvarez chuckled before increasing his demand to $100 million. The Mexican champion also acknowledged his desire for a rematch following one of the rare losses in his professional career.

“They will have to offer me a bit more,” Alvarez told CBS Mornings. “We can use that as a starting point for discussions. But absolutely, why not? As boxers, we always seek redemption. He is an exceptional fighter. I have complete faith in my skills. Everything happens for a reason. Looking back, my showings in rematches are consistently strong. I fix my errors once I realize what went wrong. If this matchup happens, it will be incredible.”

Canelo also offered his most candid explanation for the defeat. Rather than disputing the outcome or blaming physical limitations, he confessed that his mental approach was the primary problem.

The former undisputed super middleweight king noted that his training camp was flawless, but his concentration wavered once the bell rang. From his perspective, that lapse in focus caused him to neglect the basic techniques that had sustained him throughout his career.

“You cannot dictate the outcome,” Alvarez remarked. “Even with flawless preparation, things can still go wrong. I overlooked the fundamentals in that bout. The training camp was great, but my focus wasn’t there inside the ropes. Going forward, the mental state must align perfectly with physical preparation.”

A rematch remains highly speculative in light of Crawford’s retirement. Alvarez emphasized that their first encounter did not represent his peak performance, keeping the door open for another clash should Crawford end his retirement and the financial package meet his expectations.
