Detroit made Jahmyr Gibbs the most lucratively compensated running back across the NFL by awarding him a new three-year extension valued at $67.5 million. Following the official signing, Gibbs shared on Friday what his very first investment would be using his newly acquired wealth.
The 24-year-old running back unexpectedly dropped by an NFL Network interview featuring his fellow teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown during training camp. St. Brown questioned Gibbs about his planned initial splurge now that he is locked in with Detroit for the foreseeable future. Initially hesitant, the first thought that popped into Gibbs’ head was buying FIFA packs for the highly popular EA Sports FC video game series.
“Clearly, to start, it is great to see you back on the practice field. We’ve certainly missed having you out here,” St. Brown remarked. “With your massive contract locked in, the fans are eager to find out… What is going to be your first buy?”

“Honestly, I’m not quite sure,” Gibbs confessed. “Perhaps I will buy and open some FIFA packs, or something along those lines.”
Although his contract is officially set at $67.5 million spanning three seasons, Jahmyr Gibbs could pocket as much as $75.75 million when factoring in performance bonuses. A total of $51.5 million was fully guaranteed at signing. This contract slightly edges past the three-year, $66.75 million extension recently secured by Atlanta Falcons standout Bijan Robinson.
With this fresh contract finalized, the pressure is on for Gibbs to maintain elite production within the Lions’ offensive scheme. He has been incredibly dominant throughout the first three seasons of his professional career, showing absolutely no indicators of losing momentum. Over the course of the previous season, he suited up for all 17 contests with Detroit, amassing 1,223 yards on the ground, a personal-best 616 receiving yards, and hitting the end zone 18 times overall (including 13 rushing scores and five touchdown receptions).
