Hello there, everyone.

I am Brendan Howe representing Steelers Now, and we have an exciting update today.

I just wrapped up my coverage of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ training session on Sunday, marking the second-to-last practice of this year’s camp at St. Vincent.

Yesterday, I mentioned to you all that today’s and tomorrow’s sessions might be somewhat uneventful.

Well, fortunately for everyone, it did not turn out that way at all.

The latter half of the workout was highly engaging, particularly for those watching from the sidelines.

Though I haven’t spotted any footage on Twitter just yet, it is definitely worth keeping a lookout for.

Things started getting quite heated.

You would think that by this point in camp, players would be weary of facing the same teammates day after day.

Instead, we witnessed some serious, hard-hitting action.

Landon Roberts returned for his second consecutive practice session.

Towards the end of the day, he spotted undrafted rookie wideout Levi Wentz running a crossing route and delivered a solid hit to his upper body.

When I caught up with Landon later, he claimed he was unfamiliar with the practice tempo.

He mentioned wanting to ease back into things, though perhaps he was fully aware of his actions.

I will let his play speak for itself, though.

Roughly twenty minutes afterwards, during a red-zone team drill, Aaron Rodgers completed a pass to Max Hurliman—a player I discussed in detail yesterday and published an article about this morning, which you can still read.

Robert Spears-Jennings watched Hurliman execute that crossing route, glide toward the end zone, reach for the pylon, and then completely leveled him.

As Max crashed to the turf, a nearby tight end rushed over to confront Spears-Jennings about the hit.

Hurliman leaped back up, shoved his defender, and a full-scale scuffle broke out.

Deshaun Elliott and Jaheim Bell threw themselves into the fray, and the chaos drifted right into the media area where Alan Saunders and I were positioned.

The Steelers’ public relations staff quickly ordered us to back away and clear the area.

Needless to say, it was a highly emotional training session.

So, for anyone who anticipated a quiet day—myself included—we were all treated to a great surprise.

Additionally, I closely monitored Kayden Wiegand today, following comments from Mike McCarthy yesterday expressing a desire to see more production from him.

We all saw his near-touchdown on a slant route this past Thursday night, and I spent a significant portion of today’s practice tracking both him and Max Hurliman.

I captured several clips and highlights that will be shared right after this video is posted.

It was fascinating to observe the wide receiver corps today, especially Roman Wilson, whom I spoke with after the session.

I will be releasing a piece soon detailing how that group functions when their top two wideouts are sidelined.

Roman put together an outstanding performance on the field today.

Early in the team drills, Aaron Rodgers connected with him deep down the seam with an absolute dime on a flawless route for a score.

It is also quite interesting to watch the quarterback drills—I have some unreleased footage coming later this week showing them working on rapid-fire releases and distinct footwork patterns.

In one instance, Aaron Rodgers grabbed a shotgun snap and immediately flicked it to Roman, who generated yards after the catch.

That was a really compelling design to watch.

During the installation portion of practice, Darnell Washington actually lined up at the fullback position.

Even though rookie fifth-rounder Riley Nowakowski typically handles those duties, utilizing Darnell Washington in that spot is a very intriguing concept.

On the whole, today’s workout delivered far more excitement than anyone originally anticipated.

The coordinators held their press conferences following the session.

I did not attend those specific media scrums.

Instead, I focused on interviewing players on the field, including Landon Roberts and Roman Wilson.

I also spoke with Sebastian Castro, who has been highly versatile, shifting across different defensive alignments pre- and post-snap.

Patrick Graham has been deploying him in multiple roles given the current depth issues at safety.

The secondary is slightly shorthanded as Jaquan Brisker sits out, though he was present today.

He spent time catching up with visitors from his former high school, Gateway High, who attended practice.

After chatting with them, he spoke with us briefly and jokingly took credit for sparking the altercation that broke out earlier.

He was clearly just having some fun with it.

It is amusing because earlier in the day, I was reflecting on how exceptionally well-behaved and friendly everyone had been throughout camp.

For example, D.K.

Metcalf walked over to the defensive backfield during 7-on-7 drills to share some laughs.

They were trading playful barbs with him.

And he was returning the trash talk right back.

He was playfully arguing his point with them.

I remember thinking how cohesive this roster felt, especially since we hadn’t seen a real fight all summer, but that clearly changed today.

I wouldn’t expect a repeat performance of those fireworks during tomorrow’s session, though.

The players are likely exhausted from grinding in this summer heat.

They are undoubtedly eager to head home, sleep in their own beds, and return to a routine that I too am looking forward to—specifically, ending my daily commute to Latrobe.

That is a seventy-minute trip each way, in case you were wondering.

But I have committed to the coverage.

I will be right back out here tomorrow alongside Alan Saunders for Steelers Now.

Signing off, this is Brendan Howe.

I appreciate you taking a few minutes out of your busy schedule to join me.

I will catch up with you all tomorrow.
