Every single one of the 300 prospects included in the newest release of the Rivals recruit rankings — known as the Rivals300 — for the 2027 cycle has already made a verbal commitment. This is an unparalleled occurrence that highlights the rapid acceleration of the modern recruiting process.
Consequently, recruiting updates for this class during the upcoming autumn will center primarily on changes of heart and decommitments. Because the country’s top 300 players are already spoken for, it provides an excellent opportunity to evaluate which collegiate athletic conferences have secured the highest volume of elite prospects.
An analysis by Rivals examines the distribution of these 2027 Rivals300 pledges across different conferences as of August 21st. A single conference has managed to land over a third of these 300 commitments, whereas another conference is barely ahead of the total secured by Notre Dame alone.
SEC — 111
Even as the SEC strives to reclaim its spot at the pinnacle of college football, its dominance in recruiting remains completely unchallenged. The conference comfortably leads the nation with 111 pledges from the Rivals300, distributed among 15 out of its 16 member institutions.
Boasting the top-ranked class in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, Texas A&M claims 14 commitments from the Rivals300 list. Yet, in an unexpected twist, that is not the highest tally in the league; Florida’s eighth-ranked class contains 15 of these top prospects, marking an extraordinary accomplishment for their new leader, Jon Sumrall.
Additionally, both Oklahoma and Texas have secured spots within the national top ten for recruiting classes, with each program holding commitments from 10 Rivals300 players as summer wraps up. Ole Miss follows closely behind with nine pledges, while Auburn and LSU have secured eight apiece. An additional five SEC schools have at least five commitments: Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri.
Significantly, the recruiting class assembled by Kalen DeBoer at Alabama features only three such prospects. Meanwhile, Arkansas stands as the only team in the conference without a single Rivals300 commit heading into the autumn season. A current breakdown of the ten highest-ranked Rivals300 pledges in the conference is available here.
Big Ten — 89
The Big Ten continues to build incredible momentum, a trend that is clearly reflected on the recruiting trail. Currently, eight conference members boast a top-25 class, contributing to a total of 89 Rivals300 commitments within the league. Out of the 18 member schools, 15 have secured at least one such recruit.
The conference’s powerhouse programs are leading this push. Oregon and Ohio State have both landed 12 Rivals300 pledges for this cycle. Currently positioned at fourth and fifth in the national team rankings, the Ducks and Buckeyes are the sole Big Ten teams representing the top ten.
Under the guidance of their new head coach, Kyle Whittingham, Michigan shows no signs of losing steam. The Wolverines trail closely with 11 commits, and USC follows right behind with 10. This represents a highly efficient haul for the Trojans, given that their entire class consists of only 14 total pledges.
UCLA is making major strides under the leadership of Bob Chesney, with the Bruins securing eight Rivals300 pledges for their 2027 cycle. Nebraska is on their heels with seven, whereas defending national champions Indiana and Washington have each claimed six. Both Penn State and Wisconsin have recorded five, leaving Rutgers, Iowa, and Purdue as the only trio of teams in the conference yet to land a player from this list. You can view the top ten commitments in the Big Ten here.
ACC — 51
Though the ACC boasts several unexpected recruiting triumphs in this cycle, the conference still lags behind the SEC and Big Ten in terms of overall depth. A total of 51 Rivals300 commits are distributed among 12 of the league’s 17 institutions.
Miami is doing the heavy lifting for the conference and then some. Currently holding the third-ranked recruiting class in the country, the Hurricanes’ commitment list features 15 Rivals300 standouts. No other program in the ACC has managed a top-15 ranking, though Clemson is just on the outside at No. 16.
Dabo Swinney and his Tigers have secured 11 recruits who are listed in the Rivals300. After Clemson, there is a significant decline, with Virginia Tech occupying the next spot with five pledges. Both Cal and Florida State have secured four apiece, while Georgia Tech stands at three. Additionally, Louisville, Stanford, and North Carolina have all landed more than one. The top ten Rivals300 commitments in the ACC—most of whom have pledged to Miami—can be viewed here.
Big 12 — 28
Ranking a distant fourth among the Power Four leagues, the Big 12 accounts for a mere 28 commitments in the Rivals300. Were it not for the efforts of Texas Tech, that figure would be significantly smaller. According to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, the Red Raiders are the sole Big 12 representative with a top-30 national class.
The Red Raiders’ ninth-ranked class consists of 17 total commitments, 12 of whom are recognized in the Rivals300. Head coach Joey McGuire and his staff are executing an elite recruiting strategy in Lubbock, creating a massive gap between themselves and the rest of the conference.
An additional nine Big 12 schools have secured at least one recruit from the Rivals300. Both Colorado and Kansas State claim three, while Houston, West Virginia, and Arizona State have each landed a pair. Aside from Texas Tech, Houston is the only Big 12 program to land an overall top-100 recruit in the Rivals rankings. The conference’s top ten can be viewed here.
Notre Dame — 19
To place the Big 12’s deficit into perspective, one only has to look at Notre Dame’s 2027 class, which presently holds the number two spot nationally. The Fighting Irish have secured 19 Rivals300 commitments, more than any other individual program.
Head coach Marcus Freeman and his assistants have built a 23-player class in which all but four recruits rank inside the top 300 nationwide as the football season approaches. This represents an incredible group bound for South Bend next year. Indeed, if Texas Tech’s numbers were excluded from the Big 12, Notre Dame would possess more Rivals300 pledges than the rest of that entire conference combined.
To complete the breakdown, two Rivals300 recruits are committed to programs outside of the Power Four: offensive tackle Rashaun Lavata’i has pledged his commitment to Washington State, and wide receiver Dylan Medlock is committed to UTSA.
