Wyndham Clark successfully averted a late-round meltdown on Sunday afternoon, securing a massive $3.6 million payday in the process.
Despite almost relinquishing a five-stroke cushion at St. Louis’s Bellerive Country Club, Clark withstood a late charge from Rory McIlroy to capture the BMW Championship title on Sunday. He carded an even-par 70 during the final 18 holes to finish the tournament at 17-under par.
This victory marks Clark’s third PGA Tour title of the current season, elevating him to the third spot in the FedExCup rankings. His triumph pocketed him $3.6 million from the event’s overall $20 million prize fund.
Entering Sunday with a comfortable five-stroke lead, Clark saw his advantage vanish rapidly after carding an opening-hole bogey, which allowed McIlroy and the rest of the chasing pack back into contention. Although McIlroy momentarily pulled level with him late in the round, Clark responded by draining three consecutive long-range birdie putts to regain his lead and seal the victory. Interestingly, those represented his sole birdies of the day.
The leading 30 players in the FedExCup standings are now set to head to Atlanta next week for the season-ending Tour Championship. Hosted at East Lake Golf Club, the tournament features a staggering $40 million prize pool, with the ultimate champion walking away with $10 million and the coveted FedExCup trophy.
Below is a breakdown of the prize money received by Clark and the rest of the competitors in St. Louis.
