Rashid Khan Names the Toughest Batter He’s Bowled To

Rashid Khan has earned a reputation as one of the most lethal bowlers in limited-overs cricket, having squared off against some of the greatest players in the game. Across both international matches and domestic leagues, the Afghanistan leg-spinner has consistently found himself in high-stakes duels with top-tier batsmen.

Yet, there remains a specific batsman who regularly pushes Rashid to his absolute limits, demanding flawless execution. During an appearance on Aakash Chopra’s show Baith & Bol, the Gujarat Titans standout detailed the reasons why this rival is so formidable to face and why he relishes the competition.

Rashid Khan names the batsman who leaves him zero room for mistakes

Rashid disclosed that Virat Kohli stands out as the most demanding batsman he has ever encountered. The Afghan bowler pointed to Kohli’s knack for capitalizing on the slightest miscalculation and commended the ex-India skipper’s proactive style against spinners. He further mentioned that the intense rivalry when bowling to Kohli is highly motivating, as it leaves no room for anything but perfect execution. Additionally, he noted how effectively Kohli exploits field placements, turning minor bowling errors into immediate boundaries.

“Virat Kohli has consistently been the most demanding batsman for me throughout my journey. If I hit my targets perfectly, it is fine. However, the moment I slip up even slightly, he makes me pay. While other players look to rotate the strike, he is always searching for a boundary against you,” Rashid remarked.

The head-to-head statistics across different versions of the game highlight this intriguing rivalry. During One-Day Internationals, Kohli has accumulated 36 runs off 28 balls from Rashid without ever losing his wicket. In the T20I format, he has collected 22 runs off 16 deliveries, falling to the wrist-spinner on one occasion. Their most frequent encounters have occurred in the IPL, where Kohli has amassed 144 runs from 113 balls against Rashid while being dismissed three times. Their rivalry began back in 2018, when Rashid managed to secure Kohli’s wicket in their second-ever matchup.

Rashid Khan discusses Shubman Gill’s captaincy style at Gujarat Titans

The Afghan icon also shared insights on Shubman Gill’s leadership of the Gujarat Titans, a team where Rashid holds the role of vice-captain. He commended Gill for maintaining a relaxed demeanor and allowing teammates the liberty to perform without pressure on the field. The leg-spinner noted that Gill actively assists his bowlers by analyzing how opposing batsmen might attack and advising on appropriate tactical responses. Rashid feels that this style of captaincy encourages players to concentrate on their own performance without stressing over the ultimate outcome of the game.

“Shubman is a very composed captain who offers you complete liberty. He stands by you and encourages you to perform. It can be tough when a leader puts rigid expectations on you, but that is never the case here. Hardik possessed a similar mindset. They respect your experience in the game. Instead of dictating, they simply guide me on how certain batsmen might approach my bowling and what tactics I should use. Under Gill’s leadership, every player is empowered to concentrate purely on their own role, keeping our minds off the final result,” Rashid explained.
