Man City Boss Enzo Maresca Silent on Future After Scandal Verdict

Enzo Maresca, the manager of Manchester City, has spoken out about his long-term plans after the recent shocking developments at the club.

Just last month, an autonomous panel ruled that Manchester City violated numerous regulations concerning the Premier League’s financial fair play over a span of nine years, prompting a stinging declaration from Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters, who asserted that the organization repeatedly flouted league guidelines for almost ten years.

Speculation has since emerged indicating that the club could face severe sanctions, including point deductions, transfer embargoes, or potentially being expelled from the top flight, creating significant doubt about the long-term plans of many key figures at the club.

The Italian coach assumed control at the Etihad Stadium just this past summer, coming back to the institution where he previously worked alongside Pep Guardiola to succeed his mentor in the managerial role. Despite questions regarding his tenure in Manchester, he remained confident and expressed strong belief that the club would successfully overturn the verdict.

“My preference is to discuss this matter once our appeal is successful,” commented the manager. “At present, there is little point in commenting as I lack any detailed information.

“I recognize why you’re asking and wanting answers, but I have none to give. I place my full confidence in the hierarchy now, going forward, and indefinitely.”

The club released a statement last week announcing the formal submission of their challenge, dismissing the allegations as mere “interpretation” and insisting that the organization bears no guilt regarding the Premier League’s assertions, backed by an extensive array of undeniable proof validating their arguments.

As a result, the 46-year-old manager was hesitant to dwell on the issue, explaining that his immediate focus and concern lay with his team’s approaching fixture away at Anfield.

“Speculating on a successful appeal is just guessing what lies ahead. My focus is entirely on the upcoming match against Liverpool. Predicting what is to come is impossible.

“It is crucial that we all show respect for the ongoing legal procedures. The appeal is currently underway.”

Having arrived at City as a development coach in 2020 following a stint as an assistant manager with West Ham United, Maresca was not part of the setup during the years the club allegedly breached financial regulations.

He subsequently progressed to become Guardiola’s direct assistant during the historic 2022/23 Treble campaign, after which he departed that summer to guide Leicester City back into the top flight.

Following the conclusion of the international fixtures, City are set to face Liverpool away as domestic league matches start up again this weekend.
