Stephen Curry, despite experiencing a minor injury scare on Sunday afternoon, will be cleared to play in the Golden State Warriors’ season opener this week.
Curry sustained a right ankle injury during the team’s open practice in San Francisco on Sunday. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr affirmed that Curry’s knee was unaffected by the incident and confirmed that “he’s fine.”
On Monday, Kerr reiterated that Curry participated fully in practice with the team and will be ready for Wednesday night’s game in Los Angeles.
Curry limped off the court as the action paused and made his way over to the bench, briefly bending over, before heading back to the locker room.
While the timing of the injury scare is not ideal, Kerr mentioned that Curry assured him he felt fine after practice concluded.
“Always, always,” Kerr remarked when asked if his heart skipped a beat when Curry limped off the court, according to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Luca Evans.
“He’s fine. I went and spoke with him after he went downstairs, and I went into the training room.”
Curry averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists per game last season, marking his 17th year in the league with the Warriors. However, Curry appeared in only 43 games, missing a significant portion of the season due to a persistent right knee injury. The Warriors finished with a 37-45 record and did not qualify for the playoffs for the second time in three seasons. Last month, Curry also signed a two-year, $116 million extension with the Warriors.
The Warriors are set to kick off the 2026-27 season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Although there was a moment when it seemed the game might be jeopardized, Curry remains on track to start the season as planned.
