As the premier indoor tennis tournament in the UK makes its comeback this week, a host of top emerging talents are journeying to the Wrexham Open aiming for victory.
One notable participant is Armenian athlete Alina Charaeva, who recently grabbed major headlines after defeating world number one Elena Rybakina during the China Open earlier in the month.
Additionally, the 24-year-old competitor triumphed over Sonay Kartal, who previously claimed the 2024 Wrexham Open title, during that same event in China.
Spectators in Wrexham enjoyed local success in both the singles and doubles competitions in 2025, when Welsh star Mimi Xu secured both trophies, partnering with Ella McDonald in the doubles.
However, Xu has chosen not to defend her championships this time, deciding instead to enter the W75 Saguenay event in Canada.
A number of British contenders are striving for victory in Wrexham this year, including Alicia Dudeney, Hannah Klugman, and Junior Nationals champion Daniella Britton.
The international roster features prominent figures such as Greet Minnen alongside former top-50 athletes Lucia Bronzetti, Linda Fruhvirtova, Rebecca Sramkova, and Clara Burel.
Scheduled from 18 to 25 October, this W100 ITF World Tennis Tour competition promises to be the largest women’s tennis event held in the UK outside of the grass-court season this year.
