Anthony Richardson Sr. of the Indianapolis Colts is confronting a misdemeanor charge for possessing marijuana after being stopped by police on October 12 in Carmel, Indiana, as reported by FOX59.
“We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information,” the Colts stated. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
Court documents acquired by FOX59/CBS4 indicate that charges were initiated on Monday, just a week after police pulled over Richardson’s black 2023 Dodge Charger. Reports suggest that the vehicle’s registration had expired and was linked to a different car.
As per police reports, the car came to a stop on the roadside, and officers detected the “odor of marijuana” as they approached the vehicle.
Richardson allegedly confessed to smoking marijuana inside the car in order to avoid doing so in front of his children. He also informed the authorities that there was a small quantity of marijuana in the vehicle.
The quarterback was placed in handcuffs after he exited the vehicle, and officers began to search the automobile. A small mason jar, which reportedly contained a substance believed to be marijuana, along with an opened bag of THC-infused gummies, was found during the search.
The substance allegedly tested positive for THC. Richardson was not arrested but was released after being cited for the expired registration and issued a summons for marijuana possession.
A hearing was initially scheduled for December 9, but it has since been waived. A bench trial is set to take place in January 2027.
Richardson marks the second Colts player to encounter legal issues this season. Wide receiver Keenan Allen faced two misdemeanor charges following his arrest in August for suspected driving under the influence.
