BBC Sport reports that competitors featured in LIV Golf 2.0 will be barred from joining the DP World Tour for the 2027 campaign. This ruling arrives five weeks prior to the deadline for players to pledge to the European tour, preceding a crucial year where tour standing determines qualification for the Ryder Cup.
To qualify for consideration in the team competition held every two years, a golfer from Europe must maintain membership on the DP World Tour. Consequently, athletes who remain attached to LIV Golf will surrender their chance to represent the European squad at Adare Manor located in Limerick, Ireland, come next autumn.
During the 2025 event at Bethpage Black, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton stood out as the sole LIV Golf representatives on skipper Luke Donald’s European roster.
“Golfer decisions are required,” DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings explained to BBC Sport. “Our tour relies on established bylaws designed to safeguard our organization, and every member is expected to follow them. Competitors hesitant to adhere to these standards ought not to apply for membership on our circuit.”
Just last week, Rahm expressed his perspective via his legal counsel, noting that the Spanish star harbored no desire to stay involved with LIV Golf 2.0. Regarding the stipulations of the league’s revamped format as “unacceptable,” the two-time major winner ranks among several former LIV golfers holding playing eligibility on the DP World Tour for the approaching campaign.
Additional prominent figures eligible to compete on the DP World Tour during 2027—if they choose to take part—encompass Hatton, Tom McKibbin, and recent Alfred Dunhill Links Championship victor Adrian Meronk.
Throughout the previous season, conditional releases were issued by the DP World Tour to nine golfers affiliated with LIV Golf. Heading into the new season, circuit officials will require competitors to declare their intended playing schedules across all tours. Any failure to report ongoing involvement with LIV Golf will result in immediate termination of their tour status.
