According to reports from KRON4 News in San Francisco, John “Jed” York, the owner of the San Francisco 49ers, was taken into custody by police officers in East Palestine, Ohio, over the weekend, subsequently entering a plea of no contest to a pair of charges.
Authorities originally booked York under suspicion of soliciting prostitution, though the state of Ohio later downgraded this allegation to a charge of disorderly conduct. Additionally, he faced an accusation of possessing criminal tools. On Monday, York chose to enter a no-contest plea to both counts. Utilizing this specific plea means the individual does not confess to any wrongdoing but consents to receive the legal penalties as though a guilty verdict had been reached.
For his sentencing, York received a one-day jail term for each of the two counts. KRON4 News further reported that he was instructed to cover a couple of financial penalties, specifically a $150 fine for the disorderly conduct offense alongside a $1,000 fine for having criminal tools in his possession.
The police booking documentation left unspecified the exact objects York had on his person that led to the criminal tools possession charge. Under Ohio state law, the range of objects that can trigger this particular classification is highly diverse.
York’s upbringing took place in Youngstown, Ohio, where he was born. The official police report indicates that he continues to hold real estate ownership within the Youngstown area.
The 46-year-old executive originally stepped into the role of chief executive officer for the NFL franchise back in 2008.
