Spectators caught a display of raw power from Andre Russell in the second fixture of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2026, though his blazing knock failed to carry Biratnagar Kings over the finish line in their pursuit against Chitwan Rhinos at Kirtipur’s Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground on October 28. Set a target of 158, Biratnagar were dismissed for 149 within 19.3 overs, falling short by eight runs. Coming to the crease at six, Russell blazed a 17-ball 33 featuring a boundary and four maximums, scoring at an impressive strike rate of 194.12.
Andre Russell unleashes a barrage of sixes against the bowling attack
The momentum swung in the 15th over when Russell dispatched the initial two deliveries he received from Mousom Dhakal over the boundary for consecutive sixes. He sailed the ball over deep mid-wicket and long-on to sustain Biratnagar’s hopes. The West Indian all-rounder persisted with his aggressive onslaught in the next over, targeting Kamal Singh Airee.
He hammered the fast bowler for two additional sixes, clearing mid-off with one and mid-wicket with the other. Nevertheless, Russell’s endeavor to dispatch the subsequent ball into the stands brought a premature end to his knock. Dev Khanal safely held onto the catch off Airee, removing Biratnagar’s most lethal hitter at a pivotal moment in their run-chase.

Kamal Singh Airee spearheads Chitwan Rhinos to a hard-fought win
In the first innings, Chitwan Rhinos accumulated 157/3 in their allotted 20 overs after being put in to bat by Biratnagar Kings. Dawid Malan anchored the innings with a top score of 70 from 50 balls, punctuated by five boundaries and five sixes. Malan put on a 58-run opening partnership alongside Dev Khanal, who chipped in with 12. Subsequently, Ravi Bopara and Dan Mousley provided the finishing flourishes through an unbroken 67-run stand. Bopara scored an unbeaten 32 off 26 deliveries, while Mousley added a brisk 29* from 22 balls.
Russell dismissed Malan to record figures of 1/39 in his four-over spell. Even so, Biratnagar ultimately fell short of the target despite useful efforts from Imran Sheikh (39) and Lokesh Bam (26). Airee was the star with the ball, returning impressive figures of 4/26, while Rijan Dhakal chipped in by bagging 2/25. Airee’s standout spell earned him the Player of the Match accolade as Chitwan sealed an eight-run victory.
