NAVI Eliminates World No. 1 Spirit at PGL Masters Bucharest, Advances to Face Vitality in Quarter-Finals

Team Spirit fell short at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026, getting eliminated prior to the playoff stage. Their oppressors, Natus Vincere, now prepare to take on a Vitality team with stand-in jL.

Team Spirit entered their pivotal match as the current number one team in the world according to HLTV.org. The last decider of the Swiss round, against Natus Vincere, marked the end of their journey in the competition.

The contest saw significant fluctuations. NAVI showed command during the first map on Cache. Spirit managed to equalize on Dust2, but NAVI ultimately sealed the match on Anubis. It was reported by HLTV that this was Spirit’s first defeat to NAVI since February 2025.

NAVI rebounded from two consecutive losses to eliminate Spirit

NAVI’s path to the playoffs was inconsistent. They began strong, achieving 2-0 victories against G2 and FURIA, with the second map against G2 extending to three overtimes. However, their performance dipped afterwards.

BetBoom took them down decisively with a 2-0 scoreline, winning on Dust II 10-13 and Nuke 9-13. Following that, NAVI faced a tough match against Vitality, losing Inferno 2-13 and Dust II 9-13. This second defeat dumped NAVI into the 2-2 bracket, where one additional loss would have spelled the end of their campaign.

Spirit followed a similar trajectory leading up to the decider. They faced a 1-2 defeat against MOUZ on October 27. Spirit won on Nuke 13-2 but subsequently lost Dust2 8-13 and Mirage 14-16.

Being eliminated at 2-3 comes with a clearly defined financial consequence. Teams finishing ninth to eleventh earn US$31,250 each. In contrast, losing quarter-finalists walk away with US$50,000. The prize pool is distributed equally between players and organizations.

NAVI did not stand alone as late arrivals; Nemiga claimed victory over The MongolZ 2-0, while FURIA succeeded in defeating Liquid 2-0 on the final day of group stages. These three teams secured the last available playoff slots.

Vitality to face NAVI with jL filling in

The rematch arrives quickly, against the Vitality team that previously triumphed over NAVI during the group stages. Other matchups include Nemiga vs. FUT, Aurora vs. MOUZ, and BetBoom vs. FURIA.

Vitality is not at full capacity. The organization announced in August that Justinas ‘jL’ Lekavicius would step in at BLAST Open Porto and PGL Masters Bucharest.

The implications extend beyond the current tournament. NAVI’s tournament page highlights that Bucharest serves as the second-to-last major event leading to the PGL Major Singapore 2026. A robust performance here could provide any of the eight teams with an advantage heading into that event.

PGL Masters Bucharest is a live offline S-Tier tournament, classified as Valve Tier 1, featuring 16 teams. The playoff format operates under a single-elimination bracket, including a separate match for third place. No team receives a second chance from this point onward.

The playoffs are set to conclude on October 31.
