Albon commits to Williams until 2027

Alex Albon is set to remain with the Williams squad for a sixth straight Formula 1 campaign in 2027, having finalized a brief contract prolongation.

The Anglo-Thai driver originally moved to the Grove team before the start of the 2022 season. He was among a group of competitors whose deals were expiring at the conclusion of this term, triggering rumors regarding his plans as well as those of his partner Carlos Sainz within the struggling team.

However, the 30-year-old racer has secured his short-term future with the team by signing a single-year extension through 2027, demonstrating his confidence in the organization’s ongoing restructuring into a modern-day F1 competitor.

“Ever since I arrived at the Atlassian Williams F1 Team back in 2022, the progress and changes we’ve gone through are incredibly hard to describe,” Albon remarked in a statement released by the squad.

“A single difficult season does not reflect our entire journey, and it simply fuels my desire to keep progressing alongside everyone at the factory and our supporters to accomplish massive goals. Our journey is far from complete, which is why my primary goal is to do everything possible to pull us back toward the front of the pack.”

Team boss James Vowles expressed his pleasure over the Anglo-Thai racer’s decision to maintain his trust in Williams despite a disappointing 2026 campaign, which saw the squad drop down to ninth in the championship after securing fifth position the year before.

“Alex has spearheaded this evolutionary phase right from the start, and we still have numerous goals yet to be realized,” Vowles commented. “He ranks among the top talents in the sport and possesses firsthand knowledge of the massive steps forward we have taken. Securing his signature once again highlights our mutual confidence in the path we are taking.”

Prior to this announcement, Albon surpassed Nigel Mansell in Spain to become Williams’ driver with the most appearances, later celebrating his 100th Grand Prix entry with the legendary outfit in Hungary. Meanwhile, his partner Carlos Sainz has not yet finalized his future plans with the team.
