Significant shifts occurred on the leaderboard during Saturday’s action at the 2026 BMW PGA Championship. While Friday’s frontrunner Ryan Gerard endured a challenging outing at Wentworth Club, numerous competitors posted low scores to thrust themselves into the mix for Sunday’s finale.

Because Gerard and several other top contenders faltered on Saturday, the rest of the competitors had a golden opportunity to close the gap. The 12-under mark that represented Gerard’s starting point became the tie for second place by the end of Saturday’s play, meaning anyone who put together a strong performance on Moving Day put themselves in a great position for Sunday.
Nobody capitalized on this opportunity better than Alejandro Del Rey (-12), Johannes Veerman (-12), and Kristoffer Reitan (-11), who all carded superb rounds of 8-under 64 to position themselves near the top of the leaderboard for Sunday.
Several of the tournament’s most prominent figures also engineered significant climbs up the standings on Saturday.
Following a third-round 67, Joaquin Niemann sits only two shots off the pace at 11 under. The Chilean golfer is aiming for his most significant victory outside of the LIV circuit to demonstrate his worth as a prospective free agent during LIV’s financial difficulties and reorganization.
