Media outlets in Italy indicate that Chelsea are preparing to go head-to-head with Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid to secure their next high-profile transfer target.
The London outfit spent heavily on fresh talent throughout the recent summer window, providing new head coach Xabi Alonso with an expanded roster featuring player additions like Morgan Rogers, Emiliano Martinez, Maxence Lacrois, and Valentin Barco, alongside veteran guidance from Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.
Currently, Chelsea are planning another substantial pursuit. Reports from Tuttomercatoweb claim that the West London side are keeping close track of gifted Argentine attacking midfielder Nico Paz.
Chelsea said to be monitoring Como playmaker Nico Paz
Since completing his move from Real Madrid to Como back in 2024, the 22-year-old player has turned in consistently impressive displays, thriving under former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas’ mentorship.
While Real Madrid hold an option to repurchase him for €80 million next summer, Chelsea remain attentive, hoping to pull off a dramatic transfer move that would launch their latest leadership era in spectacular fashion.
“Nico is advancing down a new path, including on a personal level: his physical and athletic capabilities are expanding. He may have traded 5% of his initial sharpness, but he has offset that with gains in muscle strength, lower center of gravity, endurance, and power,” states Marco Conterio.
“This development explains why elite European sides keep scouting him continuously. Naturally, acquiring him will take a massive financial effort, but clubs like Chelsea aren’t afraid of spending big. Throughout recent domestic fixtures in Serie A and within Champions League play, representatives from the Blues have kept a close eye on his progress, attending both at De Kuip and during his recent game in Florence.
“Real Madrid retain an exclusive buyback option set at €80 million through the summer of 2027; otherwise, they secure a percentage of any future transfer fee. Put plainly: if Chelsea hope to bring in Paz, it is going to cost them handsomely.”
Paz stood out as the top performer during Como’s decisive league phase Champions League win over Manchester United last week, scoring two goals and assisting on a third.
He recorded 12 Serie A goals during the previous campaign, helping propel Como into Champions League qualification for the first time in their history. Having already registered two goals through his initial seven league fixtures this season, he remains on track for his most productive year in overall goal contributions.
Born in Tenerife, Paz honed his craft in the local side’s youth system before joining Real Madrid ten years ago. He featured in nearly 50 matches for their reserve setup and earned a handful of senior appearances in La Liga prior to his move to Italy.
The youngster has emerged as one of Serie A’s premiere talents over recent years, during which Fabregas and Como have managed his development into a prominent football name.
Paz committed to Argentina over Spain internationally and earned a spot in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, appearing twice during group stage play.
