Jack Eichel offered a candid comment after ending his scoring dry spell against the Avalanche.
The Vegas Golden Knights secured a victory in Game 2 against the Colorado Avalanche. Despite Eichel and his squad facing a deficit for a significant portion of the match, Eichel delivered a pivotal goal and an assist in the final period. This performance has positioned Vegas just two victories shy of reaching the 2026 Stanley Cup Final.
This score was highly anticipated for the prominent Golden Knights player. It represented his initial goal since April 24, when they faced the Utah Mammoth. Following his return to the scoring column on Thursday evening, he expressed a quite direct sentiment.
“It feels like ages since I last found the net,” Eichel remarked post-Game 2, according to ESPN. “It was simply a moment where the chance to shoot presented itself. My aim was to be a bit more proactive and direct shots toward the goal… It was satisfying to see that particular one convert.”
The score from Eichel initiated Vegas’s recovery effort on Thursday evening. Soon after leveling the score, he contributed an assist to Ivan Barbashev’s decisive game-winning goal. Barbashev then sealed the victory by scoring his second goal of the night into an unguarded net.
The Golden Knights are heading back to Vegas holding a 2-0 advantage in the series. This places considerable pressure on Colorado, who must now win both upcoming games in Las Vegas. Historically, only one NHL team, the 1945 Detroit Red Wings, has ever triumphed in a Conference Final or Stanley Cup Semifinal after losing their initial two games at home.
Eichel can experience some relief, having at last registered a goal once more. His focus, along with that of his team, must now be on leveraging this renewed drive to eliminate the Avalanche. The third game is scheduled for Sunday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
