Formula 1 has announced its 24-round schedule for 2027, expanding the lineup of sprint events to ten, with the championship launching in Bahrain and wrapping up in Abu Dhabi.
The campaign is set to begin on March 14 at the Bahrain Grand Prix, reclaiming its traditional position as the opening round in a back-to-back pairing with Saudi Arabia, followed by Melbourne’s Australian Grand Prix as the third stop.
After rounds in Japan and China, the sport travels to Miami and Montreal during May. Although these two races are still separated by three weeks, scheduling the Canadian GP on May 23 prevents any conflict with the IndyCar Indy 500.
The European leg commences on June 6 with the Monaco Grand Prix, which unexpectedly gains a sprint event for the first time, despite the narrow streets offering minimal passing opportunities. It is believed that organizers want to capitalize on Monaco’s exciting qualifying format by scheduling distinct sessions on both Friday and Saturday.
Portimao’s Algarve circuit marks Portugal’s comeback to the schedule for the first time since 2021 on June 20. The British Grand Prix is scheduled next at Silverstone on July 4, followed by events in Austria, Belgium, and Hungary, with the Budapest race closing out the pre-summer break phase on August 1.

Following the mid-season hiatus, racing resumes on September 5 in Italy, before moving to Madrid. Joining Portugal, Turkey is also restored to the roster on October 3, serving as the central race in a triple-header alongside Baku and Singapore.
A subsequent three-week stretch takes place across the Americas, visiting Austin, Mexico, and Brazil, whereas the Las Vegas Grand Prix stands alone on November 20.
The year’s final two races will form a consecutive double-header in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, both of which will utilize the sprint weekend layout.
Monaco joins nine other venues hosting a sprint weekend
The legendary street circuit is among ten venues designated for sprint events—an increase from the previous six—driven by F1 leadership’s commercial objectives. Sprints will debut in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, and Abu Dhabi, while making a return to Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, and Qatar.
“Following the ongoing popularity and immense appeal of this structure, we have expanded Sprint rounds from six to ten for the 2027 season, offering heightened competitive excitement throughout the year for spectators, venues, television networks, and commercial allies,” F1 stated.
“Since debuting the Sprint in 2021, analytics reveal that overall audience figures for Sprint events exceed standard race weekends by 12%. Furthermore, Sprint Shootouts garner up to three times the fan engagement of typical Practice sessions, 82% of trackside spectators report that the format enhances their ticket’s worth, and three-quarters of Formula 1 followers agree that Sprint rounds enrich the championship schedule.”

Winter testing transitions back to a solitary four-day session in Bahrain, running from February 24 to 27.
Regarding the termination of the 2026 campaign, F1 organizers insist that Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain set to proceed. Nevertheless, Motorsport.com reports that contingency arrangements are underway at Imola to stage the final round on the scheduled Abu Dhabi dates, should regional instabilities prevent either Middle Eastern event from going forward.
F2 has already expanded its Baku itinerary with an extra event, signaling that the feeder category is working to strengthen its final phase of the year.
