FIA Unveils New Partnership for Future F1 Regulations

The FIA has revealed a comprehensive partnership with Amazon Web Services as part of its initiative to enhance its digital functionality.

AWS is coming on board as the Official AI and Cloud Computing Partner, enabling the governing body to utilize AWS’s range of AI technologies to refine its ability to create forthcoming technical regulations.

Furthermore, the FIA utilizes AWS’s High Performance Computing technology for its aerodynamic simulations, which facilitates air flow testing in a virtual environment, negating the need for physical prototypes, thereby accelerating the development timeline and lowering associated costs.

This collaboration will also broaden the digital licensing platform employed by the governing body, streamlining processes such as license administration, making it more straightforward for national sporting authorities to manage their events and for officials to enroll. This digital framework, initially tested in Canada and Sri Lanka, is set to be implemented in additional countries soon.

The implementation of AWS technology is a component of the FIA’s broader digital evolution, as president Mohammed Ben Sulayem declared. “Technology is revolutionizing every aspect of our sport, and the FIA needs to spearhead this transformation. Our collaboration with AWS will enhance everything from the future vehicles to the grassroots clubs that nurture many careers.”

“Incorporating top-tier cloud and AI capabilities into the core of the FIA will facilitate participation for drivers, officials, and volunteers, aid our Member Clubs in operating more proficiently, and bring us closer to our goal of increasing global participation in motorsport.”

AWS has previously been a partner of F1 management since 2018, acting as its innovation technology ally. Among various functionalities, AWS tools manage telemetry data for broadcast purposes, enabling real-time strategy assessments.
