Arthur Fils showcased his outstanding form since recovering from a significant injury layoff by claiming the championship on the clay courts of Barcelona.
The French player, aged 21, triumphed over Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the final match on Sunday, with a scoreline of 6-2 7-6 (7-2).
Fils, who was sidelined during the latter part of the 2025 season due to a persistent back ailment, has achieved considerable success in numerous tournaments since his return to competitive play in February.
Following his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the championship match of the Qatar Open, he advanced to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells and reached the semi-finals in Miami.
Fils, who is anticipated to re-enter the top 25 of the global rankings, expressed during the awards ceremony: “I wish to extend my profound gratitude to my dedicated team. It has been a challenging eight months grappling with injury, but we are back on the court, and we have secured the trophy, which brings me immense satisfaction.”
Rublev remarked to Fils: “Your current level of play is extraordinary. You have demonstrated that you are among the elite athletes on the circuit.”
Concurrently, Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool secured victory in the men’s doubles category, defeating the French-Italian duo of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Andrea Vavassori with scores of 6-3 6-4.
This marks the first championship win in 2026 for the British pairing, who previously won the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon the previous summer.
