Francis Ngannou still wants Jon Jones fight before retirement.

Francis Ngannou openly states that a showdown with Jon Jones remains his most desired contest.

A clash between Ngannou and Jones stands as a monumental, highly anticipated event in mixed martial arts, yet its occurrence appears increasingly improbable. Jones has stepped away from professional MMA, and Ngannou is now committed to competing under MVP Promotions, making a comeback to the UFC improbable. Despite these obstacles, Ngannou expressed that this particular fight is his foremost wish and he maintains hope for its realization.

“The bout I genuinely desire to engage in prior to concluding my fighting career is against Jon Jones,” Ngannou communicated to ESPN. “Beyond that, any opponent would suffice; I’m not particular. Provided it’s an actual fight. I’m not claiming it would be a career-defining match or anything of that nature, but if I were to choose one final encounter before stepping away, it would undoubtedly be Jon Jones.”

Despite Ngannou’s optimism for this encounter, its execution appears improbable given the current circumstances.

Francis Ngannou contends that a Jon Jones confrontation was never a genuine prospect

Notwithstanding persistent speculation over the years about a Ngannou-Jones super-bout, the erstwhile UFC heavyweight titleholder asserted its lack of authenticity.

Rather, Ngannou is convinced that Jones merely exploited his reputation as a bargaining chip and enticement during discussions, harboring minimal genuine intent for the fight to materialize.

“Am I disappointed? Not at all,” Ngannou commented regarding the missed opportunity to face Jones. “It was never a concrete option, so there’s no cause for disappointment. The sole instance where it felt remotely possible was when he utilized it as a lure, a tactic to draw me in.”

Conversely, Ngannou is scheduled to make his MMA comeback on May 16, facing Philipe Lins as part of the Ronda Rousey versus Gina Carano event. This will mark his initial mixed martial arts contest since October 2024, when he secured a first-round TKO victory over Renan Ferreira in his singular PFL outing.
