Gen.G has secured victories in both of their matches during the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage, with their second win being against the current Mid-Season Invitational champions. Achieving a third win would advance the reigning LCK champions to the Knockout Stage.
The second round took place at 23:10 UK time on Saturday, October 24. Gen.G concluded the match with a 22-7 kill advantage and was ahead by approximately 16,000 gold at the moment Hanwha Life’s Nexus was destroyed, as reported by GosuGamers.
As the top seed, Gen.G had the first choice in the draft process. Hanwha Life opted to take the blue side. British commentator Medic was present among the English-language broadcasters, together with Canada’s Jatt.
This outcome follows Gen.G’s initial round victory against Invictus Gaming. Hanwha Life had commenced their tournament with a win over Top Esports.
Gen.G continues dominance over Hanwha Life
The LCK designated Hanwha Life as its second seed for Worlds. Their recent face-offs against Gen.G have not gone in their favor.
Gen.G triumphed 3-1 in the LCK Grand Final on September 13. This victory marked Gen.G’s seventh LCK title, with Ruler receiving the Finals MVP award. Hanwha Life had been defeated 1-3 on September 5, 0-2 on August 13, and 1-2 on August 5 in LCK matches. Their singular win during this series of encounters came on August 10 with a 2-1 result at the KeSPA Cup.
The Elo power rankings reflect a similar trend. Gen.G holds the fourth position with a rating of 1860 and a record of 117-30, while Hanwha Life sits at twelfth with a score of 1800 and a 112-47 record.
Fnatic is not participating in this event. Their chances of making it to Worlds were extinguished following a 1-2 loss to GIANTX in the LEC Summer regular season on August 30.
A single more win will propel Gen.G into the Knockout Stage
The Swiss Stage consists of 16 teams competing over five rounds. Attaining three wins secures a place in the Knockout Stage, while three losses result in elimination. Matches that determine a team’s advancement or exit are best-of-three, utilizing the Fearless Draft. Other Swiss matches are played as single games.
Gen.G’s upcoming match will be a best-of-three contest. LYON achieved a 2-0 record by defeating Karmine Corp in Round 2. Movistar KOI is set to face Dplus KIA in the other match with a 2-0 status. In this round, T1 lost to Dplus KIA, while Movistar KOI edged out CTBC Flying Oyster.
Hanwha Life needs to quickly regroup. Invictus Gaming, who triumphed over Team Secret Whales in Round 2, will meet them at 12:00 CDT on Sunday.
The Swiss Stage will continue until October 31, followed by the Knockout Stage from November 3 to November 14. The finals will occur on Saturday, November 14, in Brooklyn. The total prize pool amounts to US$5 million, with the champion receiving US$1 million.
Gen.G is focused on their next step. They are set to face LYON on Sunday, October 25, at 17:00 CDT.
