Half a decade has passed since Sergio Aguero bid a tearful farewell to his illustrious playing career, yet the ex-Manchester City forward harbors no second thoughts about his post-football journey.
Throughout a ten-year spell, Aguero established himself as one of the elite goalscorers in the Premier League, cementing his status as City’s record scorer prior to an early, health-enforced retirement soon after signing with Barcelona in 2021.
Now that the transition from his highly successful playing days is complete, he finds total satisfaction in being a spectator rather than an active participant on the field.

Aguero reflects on his decision to hang up his boots.
“Five years have slipped by since I stepped away, and fortunately, I do not yearn for the pitch,” he reveals to FourFourTwo.
“Occasionally, the thought crosses my mind that it might be fun to kick a ball around for a while, but it’s not something that causes me any restlessness.”
Spanning nearly twenty years, Aguero competed at the absolute peak in Argentina, Spain, and England, alongside accumulating 101 appearances for the national team. Despite a career spent at the pinnacle of football, adapting to life after the game has proven remarkably seamless for him.
“Now that I am retired, I feel incredibly relaxed; I fill my days with activities I truly love and am enjoying myself immensely,” he goes on to explain, offering a glimpse into his life after football.
“During the World Cup, I served in an ambassadorial role for FIFA Hospitality, which was a fantastic experience because of the wonderful hospitality I received.
“These days, I get a real thrill out of watching quality matches, and not stepping onto the pitch myself doesn’t bother me at all.”
His bond with the Manchester club remains strong, even though his visits to the Etihad Stadium are infrequent.
“I encounter numerous Manchester City supporters in my travels across the globe,” he mentions. “A good portion of them are international fans from diverse nations, but I’ve crossed paths with plenty of British supporters in unexpected places, including back home in Argentina.
“On one occasion, while out for a meal, I met two English City supporters who were absolutely ecstatic to run into me! No matter where my journeys take me, City followers show me incredible warmth, and that is equally true during my occasional trips back to Manchester.
“It is always an absolute joy to reconnect with my fanbase.”
