Man City Falls Short of Club Record – Yahoo Sports

Manchester City were looking to achieve the feat of becoming the eighth club in history to win their initial eight matches of a top-flight English season and set a new club record for consecutive league victories at the start of a campaign, a record that has been in place since the 1897-98 season.

They maintained dominance throughout the match, and Erling Haaland continued his impressive scoring streak, netting for the seventh consecutive Premier League match.

Nonetheless, both goals they allowed were avoidable.

Marc Guehi’s careless touch while trying to handle a lofted pass from Enzo Fernandez 30 yards from his own goal was capitalized upon, leading to him being one of two players substituted at the half by Enzo Maresca.

Nicolas Jackson’s second goal was struck early from just within the penalty area, and although Gianluigi Donnarumma had minimal time to respond, the attempt was aimed almost directly at the Italian keeper, who failed to get a strong hand to divert the ball away.

City will face off against the in-form Brighton twice in quick succession, first in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and then in the Premier League three days later, as they round off a busy November with a match away against the champions, Arsenal.
