New Start Time Set for Yankees-Braves After Rain Delay

Friday evening at Yankee Stadium feels like an unofficial tribute to the 1990s, with the Atlanta Braves arriving in New York for a three-game series against the Yankees.

Matchups like this inevitably evoke nostalgic—at least from our perspective—recollections of the 1996 and 1999 World Series. In ’96, the Bronx Bombers overcame a 2-0 deficit to capture their first title in nearly two decades, and in ’99, they swept an equally formidable Atlanta squad in four games to close out the century (defending their crown after the historic 1998 run). Obviously, those iconic battles occurred a long time ago; since the start of the 21st century, both franchises have earned just a single championship each, with New York winning in 2009 and Atlanta taking the crown in 2021.

There is an extra layer of excitement surrounding tonight’s game, as former Braves star Max Fried—the pitcher who secured the championship-clinching victory in Houston back in 2021—takes the mound against his former club for the very first time. While some faces have changed since Fried’s departure following the 2024 season (such as the retirement of manager Brian Snitker), key players like Ronald Acuña Jr., Ozzie Albies, and Matt Olson remain on the roster. On the other side, Atlanta is starting Tyler Mahle, one of their key acquisitions from the trade deadline, who is set to make his first appearance in a Braves uniform.

It promises to be an entertaining matchup… once the action actually begins. Currently, the weather in the Bronx is quite poor, and despite the fact that we are still an hour from the scheduled start, the Yankees have already stated that the 7:05 PM ET first pitch will be delayed. As soon as the team and Major League Baseball provide new details, we will keep this post updated. Keep dry and be patient! The storm is expected to clear up, meaning we should still see some baseball later tonight.
