The NFL’s opening week has arrived, bringing plenty of anticipation alongside significant injury concerns for multiple franchises preparing for their season debuts. Atlanta will take the field missing their primary pair of signal-callers, Las Vegas is set to play without premier playmaker Brock Bowers, and the New York Giants are monitoring the availability of star receiver Malik Nabers ahead of their high-profile division matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
Though virtually every roster features a name or two on the final injury lists, these reports are bound to be the healthiest we see all season. What follows is a detailed review of the official status reports across the league for Week 1.
New Orleans Saints at Detroit Lions
New Orleans is set to play without experienced pass rusher Cameron Jordan in the opener, following his absence from Wednesday and Thursday practice sessions due to a hamstring issue. Meanwhile, rusher Alvin Kamara carries a questionable designation owing to an MCL sprain, though he was able to participate fully in Friday’s practice.
Detroit heads into the opening game in excellent shape, listing just a single player with an official game status: slot cornerback Christian Izien (groin), who logged limited practice reps throughout the week.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals
Quarterback Baker Mayfield may take the field missing wideout Jalen McMillan, whose knee issue limited his practice availability all week, making him highly doubtful to play. Similarly, reserve tailback Sean Tucker is doubtful after sitting out Wednesday’s session with a hamstring strain.
On the Cincinnati side, stars Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and DJ Turner II appeared on the injury report but avoided any game-status designations for the opener, which is a positive sign. However, Shemar Stewart is doubtful after sitting out Friday’s practice with a knee ailment.
Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts
Ravens defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike, a two-time Pro Bowler, was sidelined for most of last year after sustaining a season-ending neck injury just two games in. Though he managed limited practice sessions all week, Baltimore is taking a cautious approach and holding him out for Week 1. Linebacker Teddye Buchanan (knee) will also miss the contest after being limited in practice throughout the week.
Only one player on the Colts’ roster carries an official game designation: linebacker Austin Ajiake, who suffered a hamstring injury on Friday despite participating fully in Wednesday’s and Thursday’s sessions. Receiver Alec Pierce (heel) is clear to play in Week 1, escaping any game status designation despite limited practice reps earlier in the week.
Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars
Cleveland’s first-team right guard Teven Jenkins is sidelined for the season debut due to a back ailment. In his absence, first-year lineman Austin Barber will step into the starting lineup alongside Tytus Howard on the right edge of the line.
For Jacksonville, running back LeQuint Allen Jr. (hip) represents the sole player with an official game status. He is deemed questionable after being sidelined on Wednesday and returning to limited practice work on Thursday and Friday.
New York Jets at Tennessee Titans
New York will have to manage without defensive acquisition Joseph Ossai. Furthermore, rookie nickel back D’Angelo Ponds is doubtful to play after a calf strain limited him throughout the week, paving the way for Jarvis Brownlee Jr. to get significant defensive snaps against his previous club.
Tennessee is set to play without linebacker Cedric Gray, who remains in concussion protocol and did not participate in practice this week. Gray is the lone player on the Titans’ report with a game-status tag.
Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans
Buffalo has labeled three players as questionable for the matchup: defensive lineman T.J. Sanders (knee), tailback Ty Johnson (hamstring), and Jordan Hancock (quad). Sanders logged limited practice reps on Wednesday and Friday but sat out Thursday. Johnson made his first practice appearance on Friday in a limited capacity, while Hancock’s participation steadily increased as the week progressed—sitting out Wednesday, practicing limitedly on Thursday, and working fully on Friday.
The Texans enter the opening week in fantastic physical condition, with zero players assigned a game status designation on their final injury report.
Atlanta Falcons at Pittsburgh Steelers
Atlanta starts the season facing a major quarterback deficit, as Tua Tagovailoa went down with an oblique injury during Thursday’s practice, and Michael Penix Jr. is still recovering from the knee injury (torn ACL) that ended his prior season. This leaves veteran backup Cooper Rush prepared to start in Kevin Stefanski’s first game leading the franchise. On defense, experienced pass rusher Za’Darius Smith (shoulder) is the sole Falcon listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup.
Defensive back Joey Porter Jr. (back) represents the only name on Pittsburgh’s report after taking limited practice reps all week. His limited availability might also be influenced by his contract situation, with Porter scheduled to enter the final year of his initial contract in 2026.
Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers
Chicago wideout Rome Odunze is designated as questionable for Sunday after a calf issue restricted his practice involvement all week. Offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo, also questionable, spent the week limited by a knee problem, while Xavier Woods is questionable after groin tightness limited him during Thursday’s and Friday’s sessions.
Carolina’s injury report is mostly clear, with defender Patrick Jones II being the lone name listed. This positive news confirms that rookie ball-carrier Jonathon Brooks has been cleared to make his first appearance in a game since December 8, 2024.
Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota has zero injury designations for their Week 1 matchup. Defensive back Jacob Thomas and blocker Caleb Tiernan appeared on the report with ankle issues earlier in the cycle but are cleared to play.
Green Bay has ruled out only defensive lineman Warren Brinson, who did not participate in practice all week. First-team right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele and starting left guard Aaron Banks (knee) are marked questionable, as both were limited in practice throughout the week. Linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper is also questionable after returning for a limited session on Friday, his first practice of the week.
Miami Dolphins at Las Vegas Raiders
- Dolphins: NO DESIGNATIONS
- Raiders: TE Brock Bowers (knee) OUT
The Dolphins enter the season opener completely free of injury designations. For the Raiders, running back Ashton Jeanty (ankle) has no final game status and is fully cleared for Sunday after registering full practice participation all week. Conversely, Las Vegas’ standout tight end Brock Bowers (knee) has been ruled out following a meniscus procedure performed on Tuesday.
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Chargers
Arizona has officially sidelined three players: offensive lineman Isaiah Adams (knee), defensive back Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (ribs), and cornerback Garrett Williams (Achilles). Adams sat out every practice session, and Taylor-Demerson missed both Thursday and Friday. Williams was declared out despite logging limited work throughout the week. Meanwhile, highly-drafted running back Jeremiyah Love (ankle) is questionable after being limited in every practice session.
Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles
Washington heading into their opener against Philadelphia without a single player carrying an active game-status designation.
Philadelphia has sidelined pass rusher Jonathan Greenard (pectoral), who was limited in practice all week, while tight end Eli Stowers (hamstring) is questionable after also logging limited practice sessions.
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants
- Cowboys: RB Malik Davis (hip) OUT
- Giants: WR Malik Nabers (knee) QUESTIONABLE
Dallas backup running back Malik Davis was sidelined after sustaining a hip injury during Friday’s practice.
Giants star receiver Malik Nabers (knee) is questionable for Sunday’s matchup despite participating fully in every practice this week. Nabers, who is recovering from a major knee injury (torn ACL) from the previous season, indicated that the coaching staff is leaving the ultimate decision on his availability up to how he feels.
“I have been eager to get back on the field, but I have to protect my long-term career,” Nabers commented on Thursday. “That is something I must keep in mind. I still have a long career ahead of me. Rushing a decision on my readiness to play instead of being fully prepared is risky—the coaching staff understands that, and I know I have much more career ahead of me. So I need to be smart and make sure I am truly ready to return.”
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs (Monday)
Denver features just a single player on their status report, receiver Marvin Mims (foot). He appears likely to play in the Monday night matchup after participating fully in both Thursday’s and Friday’s practice sessions.
Kansas City lists several names on their report, though nearly all were full participants on Thursday and Friday, including three-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes (knee). Mahomes is set to start the opener after bouncing back from last year’s season-ending ACL tear. However, blindside blocker Josh Simmons (back) and defensive back Chamarri Conner (knee) have yet to log any practice time this week.
