Raducanu to miss US Open for recovery

Due to her ongoing rehabilitation from a stress fracture, Emma Raducanu is set to bypass the upcoming US Open.

The top-ranked British female player sustained the lower right leg injury over the grass-court stretch, leading to her eleventh-hour withdrawal from Wimbledon.

Consequently, the 2021 champion of the tournament will absent herself from this year’s competition at Flushing Meadows, slated to start on August 23rd.

This choice followed recent discussions between the 23-year-old and her medical staff, coming shortly after she resumed light training on the court with a protective medical boot.

During the previous summer, Raducanu secured her initial victories at Flushing Meadows since her unexpected title run, yet the subsequent year has proven discouraging due to recurring bodily setbacks.

Her preparation for the season was heavily disrupted by a foot issue, which was then followed by a ten-week hiatus from tennis to recover from a post-viral condition that began early in February.

Although she reunited with Andrew Richardson—the coach behind her historic Grand Slam victory—for the final stretch of the clay-court calendar, their actual practice sessions have been minimal.

In June, Raducanu experienced a career highlight by advancing to her most significant final since her New York triumph at the Queen’s Club event, though she has remained sidelined from competitive play ever since.
