Alex Samuel, a second-row player for the Glasgow Warriors, has finalized a new contract with his childhood team and is now focused on earning more caps for Scotland.

The 23-year-old athlete, who made his first appearance for the club during a 37-0 victory against Benetton in November 2022, has accumulated 58 matches to this point.

As a product of the team’s academy, the 6’9 second-rower previously captained Scotland U20s and earned his first senior cap against Portugal in November 2024.

He added to his tally with appearances in dominant victories over the USA and Tonga last November and came off the bench during Scotland’s 47-38 triumph over Argentina in the Nations Championship in July.

“It feels fantastic,” Samuel remarked after renewing his contract.

“I’m excited about the upcoming years, and with the club’s trajectory, it was an uncomplicated choice to remain here.

“I’ve been lucky enough to engage in numerous games over the past year, which has certainly facilitated my ongoing improvement. The atmosphere here is exceptional, too, and has positioned me optimally for my development.

“It’s a lot of fun coming to work daily alongside friends, particularly those with whom I’ve shared the field since childhood. It simplifies everything, and I genuinely feel we are building something remarkable here at Scotstoun.

“I just aim to keep progressing and make myself available for selection once I’m back in top shape. I would naturally love to represent Scotland more, but first, I need to focus on regaining my best form for Glasgow and giving everything I can to the club.”

Head Coach Franco Smith commented: “As both a player and an individual, Alex has immensely contributed to our atmosphere – he is an influential presence at the club, and his work ethic is commendable for both himself and his family.

“He offers a physical edge both in play and when out of possession, consistently applying himself to place his team in advantageous positions.

“He also demonstrates a strong desire and motivation to elevate himself and become the best version of himself, and we are confident he will continue to improve as time goes on.”
