East Zone stage a massive turnaround in the game

This sensational piece of glovework was just one of many standout moments in an utterly dominant performance. North East Zone had started promisingly after electing to bowl first, leaving East Zone struggling at 25/2 and later 128/5. Nonetheless, a spectacular stand between Shahbaz Ahmed and Sudip Kumar Gharami completely shifted the game’s direction. Shahbaz played a career-defining innings, racking up 167 runs off 244 balls, while Gharami chipped in with a stylish 146 runs from 185 deliveries.

Their collaboration rebuilt East Zone’s innings, pushing the total to a formidable 467 runs. In response, North East Zone’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure. Despite finding themselves at a decent 72/2, they fell apart in spectacular fashion, losing their remaining eight wickets for a mere 39 runs. Sarkar tore through the lineup with brilliant figures of 5/20, and Shahbaz grabbed three scalps, bowling out the opposition for a paltry 111.

Enforcing the follow-on secures a resounding win for East Zone

Armed with a massive lead from the first innings, Kishan made the call to enforce the follow-on. This move instantly piled more pressure onto North East Zone. Under gloomy skies, pace bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar troubled the top order, setting the stage for left-arm spinner Anukul Roy to decimate the middle and lower order. Roy wrapped up his stellar performance with superb figures of 5/37.

Young prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi also made his presence felt, securing two wickets in a single four-ball burst during a remarkable over. North East Zone offered some late resistance as Pheiroijam Jotin and Akash Choudhary put together a 39-run stand for the ninth wicket.
