Just three rounds are left to play in the 2026 PGA Tour season, and the starting lineup for the Tour Championship has already been scaled down from its opening size. Following the withdrawal of J.J. Spaun due to a shoulder injury, an uneven number of players will navigate East Lake Golf Club, with Cameron Young setting the tempo from the very bottom of the leaderboard.
The reigning Players Championship titleholder will kick off the day at 11 a.m. ET, playing the course alone. Right behind him are several captivating duos, including the 11:24 a.m. pairing of Hideki Matsuyama and Si Woo Kim, as the two pillars of the International Presidents Cup squad attempt to work their way back into the tournament.
Open Champion Ryan Fox will tee off with Adam Scott at 1:12 p.m. after both carded 66s on Thursday, making for what should be an easygoing partnership. The pair will play immediately before world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Sweden’s smooth-swinging Ludvig Åberg, who both recorded scores of 65 in the opening round.
At the conclusion of the first round, the top of the scoreboard is tightly packed, just as many anticipated. However, an unexpected player produced the best performance of the day, as Min Woo Lee seized the lead at 8 under par. Lee kept his card clean on Thursday, finding equal success on both the front and back nines by sinking four birdies on each to sign for a 62. He will have no shortage of challengers on Friday, with Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, and Chris Gotterup sitting just two shots back at 6 under.
Lee must wait until 2 p.m. to return to the course next to Hovland, the 2023 FedEx Cup champion, who remains one of his most dangerous pursuers.
